Knowing Concrete
Understanding your concrete needs is paramount to any job. Concrete strength can range from 15mpa to 80mpa, so narrowing down what you need is the most important step. The industry standards are a good place to start:
The Concrete slump test is conducted by our team to measure the workability and quality of the concrete mix while on site. The most companies only offer slump standard of 80 our team offer a supply mixes ranging from 20-220 slump.

A concrete slab is a common structural element of modern buildings, consisting of a flat, horizontal surface made of cast concrete. Steel-reinforced slabs. Most common slabs have two variants; conventional slabs which are dug into the natural ground, and waffle pod slabs which sit above ground.
Shotcreting is commonly used for swimming pools, retaining walls, and embankment. Shotcrete is concrete applied by spraying. Shotcrete is a mixture of aggregate and Portland cement, conveyed by compressed air to the nozzle of a spray gun, where water is added. These mixes are standard 70 slump and generally range between 20mpa-40mpa.
Coloured concrete and exposed mixes are a great way to add life and dimension to any pour. Coloured concrete, also known as decorative concrete, allows traditional grey concrete to be stained and dyed different colours.
EMG suppliers provide this special mix to fill up special brickwork or to add further strength to preformed retaining walls. Similarly, strength is dependent on its use, most commonly between 20mpa and 40mpa and this mix will use a 10mm stone which ensures easy pumping. These mixes have a higher slump, starting from 120mm as to meet regulation requirements for air pockets.
Piers and Footings are the concrete foundations built under a structure to support the weight of a building. These concrete mixes are generally 20-25mpa and poured into a pre-dug trench.
No fines concrete is concrete without aggregate so that it is highly permeable and has drainage capacity, it is a light weight concrete. This concrete is normally used around trees or around retaining walls.
Stabilised sands is either natural or recycled sand which is blended with specific ratios of cementitious binder such as cement. These mixes come in ratios ranging from 1:6 – 1:24, dependant on what you need.
